The American and Canadian Bell 505 Jet Ranger X light helicopters are considered an ideal platform to train future military pilots worldwide and prepare them for challenging missions.

Most recently, Indonesia has become the next customer of this helicopter. Accordingly, Textron has announced the successful sale and delivery of two Bell 505 helicopters to the Indonesian Navy. This delivery brings the Indonesian Navy’s Bell fleet to five aircraft, which already includes three Bell 412 helicopters.

The Bell 505 designation was officially announced in February 2014. Its first flight occurred on November 11, 2014. The helicopter has a length of 12.93 m, a height of 3.25 m, an empty weight of 989 kg, and a maximum take-off weight of 1,669 kg. It only requires 1 pilot, and the rear passenger compartment has room for 4 people.

The Bell 505 is a “clean sheet” design, but uses some dynamic components, such as the rotor system, of the Bell 206L-4. The airframe is constructed of metal and composites. The cockpit is equipped with the Garmin G1000H glass avionics suite. Various options such as a cargo hook are available.

The helicopter is powered by a Safran Arrius 2R turboshaft engine, with 505 hp. It can reach a top speed of 232 km/h, a range of 617 km, and a service ceiling of 5,670 m. The helicopter incorporates a two-bladed metal rotor system with high inertia that enhances its auto-rotational capability, providing powerful lift.

Currently, Bell 505’s customers include Vietnam, USA, Montenegro, Japan, and Jamaica. In total, more than 200 units were produced.
