The Boikiy corvette was developed by the Almaz Central Marine Design Bureau between the late 1990s and the 2000s.
According to Russian media, in December 2019, with the aim of responding promptly to emergencies in the Baltic Sea, Boiky corvette and Aleksin small anti-submarine warfare ship of the Russian Baltic Fleet conducted a torpedo drill to test weapons.
