Sputnik on June 10, 2020 reported the latest satellite images showing a fake Iran-built aircraft carrier for drills. The Iranian aircraft carrier was repaired and ready to be targeted for fire, it was shaped like an American aircraft carrier with a smaller dimention.

Repair work began in January and the fake aircraft carrier now looks very complete.

Photos taken by a space technology company, Maxar Technologies (USA) and provided to AP. Image shows the ship looks like a US Nimitz-class aircraft carrier and is parked at the port of Bandar Abbas in Iran.

However, this “carrier” is fake and significantly smaller than the actual US Navy ship. The USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (Nimitz class), for example, is off the coast of Iran in the Arabian waters nearly 333 meters long and 68.6 meters wide, while the fake Iranian ship is only 198 meters long and nearly 50 meters wide.

The fake carrier even has 16 mock fighter models on the deck to look exactly like the original, though the location of the control tower is slightly different.

Earlier in January, media reported that the fake ship was repaired to continue as a target in the exercise, after being built in 2014.

Tehran then said that the carrier model was used to film a movie about the Iran Air Flight 655 that was mistakenly shot by a US warship in 1988 in the Gulf, killing 290 people.
