The Black Fox is built on a 6×6 wheeled chassis, which is much more maintenance-efficient than a tracked vehicle.

Black Fox APC is a project developed by the Korean company Doosan since the early 2000s as a competitor to the Rotem KW1 Scorpion APC in Korea’s new generation of wheeled combat vehicle competition. Although Rotem KW1 eventually won, Black Fox found foreign customers. In 2009, a contract was signed with Indonesia for the supply of a total of 43 Black Fox armored vehicles, equipped with a 90 mm turret, known in Indonesia as the Tarantula. Deliveries were completed in 2013.

The Black Fox is built on a 6×6 wheeled chassis, which is much more maintenance-efficient than a tracked vehicle. The vehicle has a crew of three and carry 9 troops, weighs 18 tons, with a conventional layout with a front-mounted engine. The Vehicle is powered by a diesel engine, developing 380 hp, for a max speed of 100 km/h, and a range of 640 km. Amphibious capability is proposed as an option.

The Black Fox is fitted with remotely controlled weapon station, armed with 12.7 mm machine gun or 40 mm automatic grenade launcher. Also it can be fitted with various other weapons, including turret-mounted armament.

The Indonesian version, the Tarantula, is fitted with a 90 mm turret, with the main role is infantry fire support. It can engage buildings and field fortifications. It is also effective against lightly armored vehicles. The 90 mm gun does not have enough firepower to engage a tank, but its mobility offers a significant tactical advantage, which can be deployed in a short time. Basically, it is emphasized on speed, deployability, and maneuverability to counter enemy forces.

The weapon system is mounted on a 6×6 wheeled chassis. It is lightly armored, providing comprehensive protection from small arms fire and artillery shell splinters. It is likely that the front arc withstands hits from 12.7 mm armor-piercing rounds. The crew of 3: commander, gunner and driver. Crews enter and exit the vehicle via a rear electrically operated ramp with integral door. There is also a roof hatch.

The Black Fox was also developed in an 8×8 version in response to a possible Korean request for a wheeled armored vehicle. So far this vehilce has not received production orders. Only a few prototypes were completed.
