Accordingly, Mr. Leonov told the press: “a Tor-M2 modification is being developed on a specialized wheeled chassis,” The main requirement for a combat vehicle is will be able to “swim across water obstacles.”

In addition, according to Lieutenant General Leonov, Tor-M2 air defense systems will be equipped to the Russian army by 2027.

Earlier, in December 2019, the Russian Ministry of Defense and the Kupol electromechanical plant (belonging to the Almaz-Antey Aerospace Defense Group), a unit specializing in the production of the Tor air defense missile complex, signed a contract to produce Tor-M2 and Tor-M2DT until 2027, worth 100 billion rubles.

Lt. Gen. Leonov said that air defense units in the Arctic and the Far North will be equipped with the Tor-M2DT air defense missile system, which is important when other countries are increasingly interested. mind in this area.

Tor-M2 is a tactical air defense missile system capable of withstanding all weather conditions. The Tor-M2 is designed to carry out air defense and missile defense missions to protect important military, economic and administrative facilities, as well as to support pioneering infantry units.

Designed by Almaz-Antey Group, Tor-M2 is an air defense missile complex upgraded from Tor-M1 version. This is a combination of close-range air defense missiles, capable of destroying types of flying targets such as fighters, helicopters or cruise missiles.

Tor-M2 is capable of destroying targets at long range from 1 to 15 km. The Tor-M2 air defense missile complex is considered to be the last line of defense in air defense systems, when the target is to overcome all other long-range and medium-range air defense systems.

The Tor-M2 air defense missile complex is also designed to travel on complex terrains. Maximum speed can reach 65 km/h when moving on asphalt and about 45 km/h when off-road. Tor-M2’s fighting crew has a staff of 3.

According to sources, Tor-M2 is capable of destroying 4 targets simultaneously at altitudes from 10 m to 10 km. This system uses a new generation interceptor missile, which is said to have much better performance than Tor-M1.

Tor-M2’s radar system can detect targets at a distance of 32 km, simultaneously tracking 48 flying targets. Tor-M2 can also be combined with other air defense complexes such as Pantsir or SAM to be able to tracking targets from when they are out of range.
