The state-of-the-art F-35 stealth fighter in the Israeli Air Force is believed to be the victim of Russian electronic warfare systems.
Russian electronic warfare (EW) systems have proved very effective in suppressing Western aircraft, the latest victim being the F-35 stealth fighter.
Not long ago, in a number of regional media, there was a lot of news about the unusual behavior of the Israeli Air Force’s F-35I Adir stealth fighter during exercises in the Middle East.
Specifically, these aircraft missed their targets, and based on such a background, some believe that these fighters were within the coverage of Russian electronic warfare systems.
According to analyst Tanmey Kadam from India’s EurAsian Times, the sophisticated Russian electronic warfare systems present on Syrian territory are fully capable of carrying out long-range repression operations.
“There are allegations that the Israeli fighter jet missed the target due to electronic jamming, which disrupted the weapon system of the F-35I Adir stealth fighter.”
“According to a report from the Israeli Defense Ministry, not a single aircraft was able to hit the target during the exercise with the participation of Prime Minister Naftali Bennet,” said the editor of the EurAsian Times.
Journalist Tanmey Kadam commented that it is difficult to determine the cause of the failure of the Israeli Air Force’s F-35I Adirs. Determining the cause will be done by leading experts.
But it is unlikely that Russian electronic warfare was involved in this, as the exercise was conducted in Israel. However, there is no denying the fact that Russian EW systems have repeatedly demonstrated their high level.
“Although Russian EW systems such as Krasukha-4 have proven to be very effective in jamming US drones, interfering with Israeli Army exercises seems extremely unlikely,” said a journalist for the EurAsian Times.
Kadam expert believes that the only situation in which the Russian EW can affect the Israeli F-35 is the fighter jet entering Syrian airspace. Under such a scenario, the Russian Army can respond lightly to the opponent without causing them serious damage.
Russia’s electronic jamming equipment is capable of interrupting the signals of the GLONASS satellite navigation system, the GPS of the US, the Galileo of Europe and the Beidou of China. Thus, the aircraft, UAV or missile will have problems with the navigation equipment.
The analyst added: “Russia has installed anti-drone and electronic warfare systems at Hmeimim airbase in Syria to counter enemy surveillance from the air and from space.” .
This military expert said that Russia does not interfere in Israel’s internal exercises, but if there is a need, the country’s electronic warfare systems are capable of solving that problem.
However, it is worth noting that there is still a lot of controversy about the true effectiveness of Russian electronic warfare systems, with most saying that they are not as “magical” as the media claims.
