“At the end of 2021, we expect to deliver the corvettes Tsiklon and Burya. In 2022, another vessel of this class, Askold, is expected,” according to the source.
About Russia’s Project 22800, this is a project that includes Russia’s latest Karakurt-class guided missile corvettes. Project 22800 was first publicly introduced by Almaz during the Army-2015 International Military-Technical Forum, with the name Project 12300.
The corvettes of Project 22800 are designed with superstructure to achieve stealth and are integrated with masts equipped with phased array radar. In terms of size, these ships also carry a relatively large size, with a hull length of 67m, the displacement of these ships is up to 800 tons. Even after the first two ships, subsequent ships are expected to increase their displacement to 860 tons.
These ships are equipped with 3 Zvezda M-507D1 diesel engines and 3 DGAS-315 generators. They allow these missile corvettes to reach a maximum speed of up to 30 knots, reserve 15 consecutive days.
These missile corvettes are all equipped with the most modern sensor systems, radars, satellite communication stations, which greatly support these ships in tactical warfare at sea.
Regarding the armament of Russia’s Karakurt-class corvettes, the main weapons of these ships is the Kalibr cruise missile or the P-800 Onyx (Yakhont) supersonic anti-ship missile, known as the “anti-ship killer”.
These ships are equipped with up to 8 VLS launchers, ready for missile launch when performing missions. In addition, from the 3rd ship onwards, the corvettes of Project 22800 are also equipped with Pantsir-M, with terrifying power. It is also possible that there will be additional Hermes-K or 3M89 and Sosna-R missiles.
In addition to missiles, for self-defense, these corvettes are equipped with automatic naval gun and machine gun systems, including 2 AK-630M, 1 AK-176 and 2 Kord guns.
