T-80U-M1 Bars is a modernized version of the T-80U tank, with high speed, long range and less noise when traveling on complex terrain.

The T-80 main battle tank, which entered service with the Soviet Army in 1976, is considered one of the most powerful tanks in the world. Previously, the T-80U was only staffed with the most skilled divisions of the Soviet Union and Russia.

The T-80U-M1 Bars main battle tank was revealed in 1997. It retains the basic design features: the main armament is arranged within a rotary turret, the propulsion plant and transmission are arranged in the hull’s rear, and the crew members are seated separately – the commander and the gunner sit in the fighting compartment, and the driver in the driver’s compartment.

The T-80U-M1 Bars had a composite front armor with built-in explosive reactive armor blocks. It also had Arena active protection system, as well as Shtora-1 countermeasures system.

The tank is equipped with a 125mm 2A46M-4 smoothbore gun stabilized in both planes. The gun is also used to launch 9M119M anti-tank guided missiles in the same manner, as ordinary munitions. The 9M119M missile has a range of up to 5 km. Tank’s autoloader provided a maximum rate of fire of up to 7-9 rounds per minute. There are 28 ready-to-use rounds, while other rounds were stored at the front of the hull.

Secondary armament included a 7.62 mm coaxial machine gun and a 12.7 mm heavy machine gun mount, located on top of the commander’s hatch. The crew of three, including commander, driver and gunner.
