It is known about two variants of the family of Typhoon vehicles – Typhoon-K armored vehicles and Typhoon-U universal tactical trucks

The experience of the conflict with Georgia in 2008 helps to point out the limitations of the Russian Army today, which has had a significant impact on Russia’s program to develop a new generation of military transport vehicle in the period from 2010 to 2020. This led to the creation of the Typhoon-K, a Russian multi-functional, modular, armoured MRAP vehicles manufactured by the Russian truck builder Kamaz. As of 2021, the number of Typhoons in the Russian Armed Forces fleet is about 330 units.

The main distinguishing feature of the project is the modularity of the design, thanks to which a family of wheeled vehicles is built on the common chassis. It is known about two variants of the family of Typhoon vehicles – Typhoon-K armored vehicles and Typhoon-U universal tactical trucks. The Typhoon-K family is developed in configurations: 4×4, 6×6, and 8×8.

Reservations made in accordance with NATO classification STANAG 4569 of level 3b, in which the vehicle can withstand undermining by high-explosive devices weighing 8 kg of TNT under any car seat. Bulletproof protection corresponds to the fourth level. Combined set of ceramics and steel armor, which protects against armor-piercing bullets of caliber 14,5 mm.

Typhoon-K  is equipped with five cameras for review the troop unit and cockpit. Cabin is equipped with folding displays, showing how the state of the car is, and an external review.

For the 6×6 version, it can accomodate 16 fully armed soldiers. It has a weight of about 25 tons, a length of 9m, a width of 2.55m, and a height of 3.12m. It is equipped with a 450 hp engine with an automatic transmission. The maximum speed can be up to 105 km/h, the range is 1,200 km. The approximate cost of the vehicle is 60 million rubles ($ 1 million).
